Low-temperature heating with convectors

Low-temperature heating means running the system with supply water around 35–45 °C instead of the 60–75 °C used in traditional installations. It is the key to efficient heat pumps and condensing boilers, but it changes what the heat emitter has to do: at low water temperature, an emitter must expose far more surface or move air actively to release the same amount of heat. Hydronic convectors and trench heaters are designed for exactly this duty.
Why radiators struggle at low temperatures
A radiator sized for 70 °C water loses a large share of its output when the supply drops to 40 °C, because heat transfer depends on the difference between the surface and the room. To compensate, radiators must become impractically large. Convectors avoid this: a finned heat exchanger already offers a large surface, and with an EC fan the unit forces air across the coil, so it keeps delivering full output from cooler water.
The EC fan advantage
Konveka trench heaters with fans (FH4-M, FH4-H) and fan coils use energy-efficient EC fans with wide speed control. At low speeds they are quiet and economical; at high speeds they cover peak load on the coldest days — all while the water circuit stays at the low temperature the heat pump needs. This makes low-temperature heating reliable even in spaces with large glazing and high heat loss.
Comfort along glazed facades
Low-temperature systems can feel uneven if the emitter cannot counter cold air falling from large windows. Recessed trench heaters sit directly along the glazing and create a warm air curtain that stops downdraught, delivering even comfort without visible equipment — a combination radiators cannot match in glass-heavy architecture.
Built to standard
Konveka convectors and trench heaters are tested to EN 442 and EN 16430, with stainless-steel casings and EC fans. Every model is published with output in W and W/m, so specifiers can size correctly for a low-temperature design rather than guessing.
